Frequently Asked Questions - Website
If you are an authenticated user, you can post and reply on the Forum, but not much else. If you are honestly interested in trying to understand and contribute to the RS2 research project, you can apply for the "Researcher" role by clicking on "My Account" and selecting the tab, "Apply for Role" and apply for the researcher role. Researchers can create blog entries, books, stories, polls and videos in addition to forum posting.
Researchers can create different types of content for the site:
Forum topic -- used to hash out ideas with other researchers or ask questions about the theory.
Story -- used for informal papers. Will need to be connected with a Menu so it can be found! Contact the Administrator for menu additions.
Book page -- used for formal papers on the theory.
Video -- used for a video presentation, slide show or lecture. Note that due to server limits, upload size is limited. The file will automatically be converted to FLV (Flash Video), so some resolution may be lost. If you have a large video, contact the Administrator to FTP it up to the site, which will create a video page for you.
Poll -- used to survey the membership at large on a specific question.
Blog entry -- for your personal use. The latest blog entries are listed on the front page, in a last-in, first-out order. The blog should concern research regarding the Reciprocal System and RS2 extensions.
You can apply for a researcher role by clicking on "My Account" then "Apply for Role". Research roles are only granted to people who are actively participating in the RS2 project, so unless you've made some posts to the Forum, don't expect to be approved.
Email access is provided through the "Notifications" interface.
- Click on "My Account".
- Click on the "Notifications" tab.
- Click on the "Tags" tab.
- Place a check box next to the forums you wish to receive emails on.
- Select "Mail" (Plain text) or "HTML Mail" (Rich text) on how you would like to receive your emails.
You can also reply to an email to post a comment back to the forum. Due to a bug in the mailhandler software, this only works properly with the "Mail" option (HTML Mail will not have the correct Reply-To address, and any replies will be lost).
Note that EVERYTHING that appears above the "Reply ABOVE this LINE to POST a COMMENT" line WILL GET POSTED. So if you hit "Reply", you'll normally get something like "Bruce wrote:" then a copy of the original email. If you reply above "Bruce wrote", "Bruce wrote" will be included at the bottom of your comment! Please delete any unwanted text that appears before the "ABOVE" line.
After hitting Reply, you can also delete the entire content of the message to comment, including the "Reply ABOVE this LINE to POST a COMMENT" line. If it doesn't find it, it posts everything to the bottom of the message. This also means that any advertising garbage that gets attached to a "free" email account will also show up in the comment. So please use the "Reply ABOVE this LINE to POST a COMMENT", even if it is the last line of the post.
Yes, personal bookmarks can be flagged on any article, page, book entry or forum topic. You must be logged in to use this feature.
At the bottom of each page, you will see a "Bookmark this" link. Click on it to add to your bookmarks. Your bookmarks can be viewed by clicking on "My bookmarks" in the user navigation menu.
Yes, LaTeX equations are supported using the [tex]2+2=4[/tex] tags.
You can build complex equations via a graphical interface by visiting the LaTeX Equation Editor for the Internet site. Once you have the equation looking like you want, just paste the LaTeX source between the [tex] tags and it will render upon Preview and Save.
